## What this is

Calendar arithmetic for agents that schedule appointments, compute payment terms or run payroll.
Coverage: DE (16 states), AT (9 states), CH (26 cantons). Germany additionally knows the municipal special case BY-AU, the
city of Augsburg, whose Hohes Friedensfest on 8 August is the only public holiday in the country
limited to a single city.

## How the answers are produced

- One versioned rule set ships with the service: /regelwerk, currently 2026.08.06.
- Movable feasts are computed from the Gaussian Easter formula, never stored as a table.
  Karfreitag, Ostermontag, Christi Himmelfahrt, Pfingstmontag and Fronleichnam are offsets to Easter.
- Buß- und Bettag is derived as the Wednesday before 23 November, not looked up.
- Nothing is fetched from third parties while a request runs. The service has no outbound calls.
- Four levels of legal standing are distinguished: gesetzlich (statutory, whole region),
  faktisch (not statutory but work stops region wide, common in Swiss cantons), teilweise
  (only some municipalities, for example Fronleichnam in Saxony and Thuringia or Mariä Himmelfahrt
  in Bavaria) and halbtag (half day). Only the first two count as non working days; the rest is
  reported so the caller can decide.
- A yearly cron compares the rule set against an independent reference and reports every difference
  instead of silently adopting it.
